Church prayer reading
Have your prayer read aloud in a church.
A real person carries your words into a real church. Here is exactly what happens, who does it, and what you get back.
What happens
Four steps, start to finish
-
1
Ask when you light a candle
Turn on “Would you like your prayer read in church?” as you light it. Your candle goes on the map as usual, and people can pray for it right away.
-
2
Your prayer is printed, in your own words
Nothing is rewritten or summarised. It is printed for one of our intercessors with your first name and a request to treat every word as confidential.
-
3
An intercessor reads it aloud in a church
A member of the Votyv team carries it into a church and reads it there, with reverence. Every visit is verified with a photo taken at that church, within a mile of it, that day.
-

You are told where and when
The day it is read you get a notification and an email with the church’s name and city. Your candle on the map carries “Read in church” from then on.
What you receive
Three things, the day it happens
These are examples of exactly what arrives. Nothing is sent before the reading has taken place.

St. Mark’s Church · Austin, TX
On your candle
Read in churchShown on your candle on the map and on your profile, with the church and the date for you.
We don’t send a photo. The photo the intercessor takes at the church is used only to verify the visit and is never published.
Who reads it
The intercessors
Votyv members who go to church and have agreed to carry prayers in. They see your first name and your prayer, nothing else.
We’ll introduce them here by name as they join.
What it costs
Praying on Votyv is free. Readings come with membership.
Because a person makes the trip, readings are part of Votyv membership: 2 readings a month, $9.99/month or $79/year. The first 7 days are free and you can cancel any time. If a reading can’t go ahead, we tell you and return it to your account.
Free to join · No card needed to light a candle
Questions people ask
Who reads my prayer?
One of Votyv's intercessors: a member of the Votyv team who attends church and has agreed to carry prayers in. They see your first name and your prayer, nothing else.
Which church is it read in?
A church the intercessor attends or visits. You're told its name and city the day your prayer is read.
How long does it take?
Readings happen when an intercessor next goes to church, so we don't promise a date. You get a notification and an email the moment it has been read.
Do I get a photo?
No. The intercessor takes a photo at the church so we can verify the visit, but it is private and never published. What you receive is the church's name, the city and the date, and your candle carries 'Read in church' on the map.
What if it can't be read?
Occasionally a prayer doesn't fit a church's guidelines for public prayer. If that happens we tell you by email and return the reading to your account.
Is praying on Votyv still free?
Yes, and it stays free. Lighting candles, praying for others and everything on the map costs nothing. Readings come with membership because a person makes the trip: 2 a month, $9.99/month or $79/year, first 7 days free, cancel any time.
